Tula Skincare: 1 Year Update

why i started using TULA

I can’t believe I have now been using TULA for a year! I started using Tula last year after seeing several of my blogger friends talking about how much they loved it. Talk about the influencer getting influenced haha! I first just bought the Tula Day & Night Cream because I have super dry skin and was in need of a moisturizer that was actually going to keep my skin hydrated. After just the first use I really was hooked. It just felt GOOD on my face, it smelt good, and I could feel that my skin felt softer immediately. After that I bought the face wash hoping I would like it just as much! Just like the face cream, I loved the face cleanser too. Both seemed so fresh and light, and I just love how my skin was feeling after even a short amount of time. In order to really know if a product is working for your skin I suggest using it for 2 months, so that is exactly what I did before sharing anything with you guys!

When I was in middle & high school I started to get breakout on my chin and forehead pretty regularly. They never turned into cystic acne or got extremely out of control, but to me it was frustrating that I kept dealing with the same breakouts over & over again. I never thought much of skincare, and considered a makeup wipe before bed to be my “nighttime skincare routine'‘ haha. This might have worked for 14 year old Bre, but as the years passed I felt like my skin wasn’t it’s best because I wan’t really giving it much to work with. When you wear makeup all day long, every day, your skin can get clogged and pores get filled with makeup that won’t come out with just a makeup wipe. I didn’t realize the importance of cleaning your skin, and most importantly, cleaning it with ingredients that were working for better skin.

Hey Bre, what kind of skin do you have?

I get asked this question SO often! It is sort of funny because I fee like my skin can change depending on the time of month haha! It is mostly pretty dry, especially around my nose and cheeks. Although, my forehead and chin do get oily.. I told you my skin is crazy! For the most part, I think the lack of hydration must come from not drinking enough water, so if you are dehydrated your skin will show that. This is why I love the Day & Night cream (HOLY GRAIL PRODUCT) because it gives my skin some serious hydration and feels so lightweight & fresh on my face, literally day or night. I use it before applying primer and makeup in the morning, and after I use any serums at night before I go to bed.

I still get small breakouts along my chin line and forehead, mostly because of hormones and what I eat I am sure. I do tend to breakout much more right before my period (TMI but hey we are all friends here!) and those breakouts are much deeper than just a simple pimple. I love to use the Acne Clearing Gel around that time of the month to really attack and kill that bacteria deeply. I definitely would say that using these products over the last year have helped my skin look and feel so much better!! To me skincare isn’t about achieving perfect skin, it’s about helping my skin look and feel its best, and these products really do that for me.

I think that there is some misconception that skincare can only work for “certain” skin types. That you need some specific formula made just for you in order for it to work properly. While I do think that you should cater your skincare routine to your personal needs, I don’t think that means that skincare can’t be universal. I think that these products are designed for ANY skin type, because chances are wether you have dry or oily skin, you still need antioxidants, hydration and probiotics to achieve your best skin!

hey, breakouts happen, life goes on

I am really not sure what took me so long to figure out I needed to try something to help my skin, or why I decided I would give Tula a try, but I did. And I am super thankful that I did! Like I said above, you won’t really see instant changes in your skin (from using any product) right away, you need to be consistent with it and I think that takes at least 2 months, if not more. When I first started using Tula I knew I loved the fresh smell of the products & that my skin felt smoother, but it wasn’t like my skin stopped breaking out and I never got a zit again.

Breakouts happen based off of what we are eating, stress levels, hormones, if you touch your face, etc. There is no magical “cure” for never getting a zit again haha but I do think that with consistent use of these products over the last year my overall skin has improved in texture, tone, and my breakouts have gone down too! My best advice is to take care of your skin and do what you can to keep it clean, healthy, and hydrated (drink water!!) and it will be your best skin. This doesn’t mean you never get a zit again. Everyone breaks out! If you are one of the rare few that rarely experience breakouts than be thankful you don’t have to deal with them, but if you are like most every other women in her teens, 20’s, or 30’s.. chances are you deal with them often.

I like to think of skincare as doing what is best for my skin. If I am doing my part to help my sin feel and look its best, then I can feel confident going makeup free knowing that if I have breakouts it is okay and VERY normal, but I am doing my best for my skin! Sharing my favorite products below!!

game changing products for my skin:

new & noteworthy:

This Tula sugar scrub mask just launched TODAY! I have been using it the last 4 days since I was sent it a little early.. oh is it good! It’s packed with healthy ingredients like sugar (a natural exfoliant that dissolves in water) as well as papaya & pineapple (which contain naturally occurring enzymes to chemically exfoliate the skin). It left my skin skin looking and feeling smoother & brighter even just after one use. It also literally smells like a beach vacation haha it has this fruity, beachy smell which in my opinion is the best smelling Tula product yet!

my favorite mask

Exfoliating mask

My go-to mask when I feel like my skin needs a little pick me up! I love that it has some grit to it, so when I am applying the mask I actually rub it around so it can exfoliate as I apply and then sit on my face. This detoxifying bentonite clay mask provides gentle exfoliation without stripping the skin of essential oils, making way for antioxidant-rich blueberry extract to hydrate and improve skin tone. I use this mask probably 2x a week, and let it sit on my face for 20 minutes before rinsing it off; rubbing my hands around my face with water. I use this before I wash my face!

the best face cleanser

What I love about this face wash is that is it super soft & non-irritating. I feel like most face washes that are effective usually have a lot of grit and texture to them, which can be a good thing, but for daily use I find this lightweight & soft formula is perfect for my skin. I love that is smells super fresh and is made with probiotics, so I know it is good for my skin. It has a light lather to it, so you only need a small nickel size to cover your whole face. I can use this morning & night and never feel like my skin is drying out.

your new favorite toner

pro-glycolic gel

For those fighting with breakouts or oily skin you might be family with using a toner. I used to use a face toner in high school and I felt like more than anything it really dried by skin out! I was sort of weary to try this gel, but I have to say it does so much more than a normal toner might. This alcohol-free toner uses probiotics, glycolic acid, & beetroot extract to gently exfoliate the skin. Not only does it control oils on your skin and even skin tone, it soothes redness and adds hydration back into your skin. I apply this product using a cotton pad and rub 2-3 pumps of the gel evenly around my face after washing, before applying moisturizer.

clear away your acne

For someone that deals with cystic acne or frequent breakouts, I would suggest using this product daily before you use moisturizer. This acne fighting gel contains 2% salicylic acid to clear up acne, prevent breakouts & brighten marks left by past acne. I like to use this when I need a little extra acne cleaning & clearing power than my daily Pro-Glycolic gel. You would use this is replacement of that product; using either a cotton pad or your fingers to rub the product around evenly in a thin layer on your face. Apply before your moisturize.
