Q&A #1: Hair and Makeup

You asked, and I've delivered!

Here is my first segment (of hopefully many) of my Q&A series. Sumit any questions about life, hair, makeup, marriage, relationships, food, style, home décor, etc to my email or by commenting on any Instagram post, and I will start addressing them in these Q&A posts!

Hair & Makeup

Q: Who does your hair?
A: I found my hairstylist (@hairstylistemilyhorton) on Instagram about two years ago. I had never colored my hair before and all her amazing before & after photos of hair coloring had me SOLD that she was the best. She really is! Find a hairstylist you like to spend time with and trust.

Q: What do you ask for when you get your hair colored?
A: My hairstylist told me a balayage is best for my hair, because the upkeep is much less than a full head of color. The growout is really natural and subtle; although I am very overdue for a coloring and have a n appointment in a few weeks thank goodness!

Q: What haircut do you ask for when you get it cut?
A: I usually just get a blunt cut all the way around, I don’t love layers and bangs on myself, so I keep it pretty simple!

Q: What is your natural hair color?
A: Dirty blonde! You can see the natural color is most of my recent pictures because my balayage is growing out!

Q: What is your go-to hairstyle?
A: I love wearing my hair half up in a bun! I feel like most of my pictures my hair is like that, mostly because pictures are taken after work and I need my hair out of my face at work haha! I also can't put my hair totally up into a bun because it's too short, so its a fun way to get a similar effect! I also love messy loose curls or space buns!

Q: How do you keep your hair from getting fried and dry?
A: Whenever you color your hair, the hair gets damaged, so it is super important to use the shampoo & conditioner your hairstylist might recommend. I also like to condition it every day and get a trim every two months. Even just an inch cut off will help keep it softer and have less split ends. Also, know your hairstylist! Make sure you trust them to keep your hair healthy and know your limits.

Q: What brand of foundation do you use?
A: I have been using Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation for almost four years! I really love it as far as drugstore foundations go; it gives good buildable coverage and comes in lots of shades so I can match my skin for that time of the year. I also think it goes on really soft & smooth, and never looks too heavy.

Q: What are your favorite makeup brands?
A: If you know me, you probably already know that I am a huge fan of drugstore products! I rarely splurge on my everyday makeup. Drugstore brands I use and love are Maybelline, Loreal, E.L.F., and NYX. I also love MAC and NARS. I think it’s more about reading reviews and figuring out what works best for your skin! Some might work for me and not for you; know your skin sensitivities and figure out where is a good splurge and where you can save.

Q: Do you have eyelash extensions?
A: No! Although I am super flattered that someone thinks I might have them haha! I have definitely considered it but am too worried that when I want to get them all taken off that my natural lashes will be ruined. I also love the feeling of my face being free of all makeup and clean before I go to bed each night, so I’m not sure how I would like them! I do love lashes on other girls though, and have had many friends who rock them & look amazing! I would say just know who’s doing your lashes and look into them to make sure they are going to look just how you want.

Q: What are your thoughts on microblading?
A: Like lash extensions, I think microbading is totally a preference thing. Some people love them and others can’t stand the thought of them. I am sort of torn, mainly because I’ve seen really good brows and really awful brows done. I think they tend to look a little better on girls with dark brows naturally because the strokes blend in more, however I have seen a few blondies who look amazing with them. Right now I am fine with filling them in a little and like being able to have control of darkness and shape, but maybe someday I will try them!

Q: Do you wear lipstick every day?
A: I usually wear some type of lip color, whether it be a light pink gloss or nude lipstick, I like some color on my lips. Rarely will I do a bold color, it’s usually pretty simple and neutral!

Q: What type of skin do you have? Oily? Dry?
A: You guys, my skin is so weird! After washing my face my skin is SO dry. I moisturize every night before I go to bed and when I wake up my skin feels soft, but by the end of the day I usually get a little oily on my forehead and upper lip! It’s like a daily cycle of my face haha! To keep the oiliness at bay, I will use a little powder over my liquid foundation in those spots to help set it and stop any shine!

Q: If you could pick one drugstore mascara to wear forever what would it be?
A: Ooh this is a good one! Surprisingly difficult because I have a few I love.. but I think it would be Maybelline Rocket Mascara (blue tube!) in blackest black. I love how it layers up and goes on smooth and doesn't flake. So good!

You guys, these questions are amazing and really got me thinkin' about things I'd never really thought about before haha! Thank you!
