Comparing Two Baby Monitors - Pros & Cons

attention new parents

Today I decided to write a review on the two baby monitors that we have purchased since Taya has been born. They are both the same brand, but one is an upgraded version that is slightly more expensive. We actually would’ve just stuck with the original baby monitor, but ours ended up breaking and falling apart a little bit.. it might be that we let Tay play with it sometimes… I don’t think we’re gonna let her play with the newer one anymore haha. I thought this may be helpful for new parents or a mom looking to add some items to her registry. I will keep it simple & state our experience with both below!

Monitor #1 - Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor with Interchangeable Optical Lens: SHOP HERE
So we bought this first monitor when we found out we were pregnant; it had great reviews on Amazon and seemed really affordable compared to some of the others and we had seen. One of the other things that I wanted was to buy one that did not have access to wifi. I know that this is something that some people may look for, but I personally did not like the idea of connecting it to wifi and the possibility that other people could accidentally connect to the baby monitor as well. I also want to say that we did not have any issues with the way this monitor worked or the quality of it when using it. We only started to see a decline when the antenna started to get loose, the connection would get lost every once in a while, and the battery would not hold any life any longer. It’s not to say that with time the nicer version might not do the same, but after buying the slightly we upgraded version the second go around, I wish we would have made the purchase that one in the first place. This baby monitor is charged with a plug into the wall, but also uses battery, so technically it is wireless unless it needs a charge. It has zoom on the camera, as well as talking capabilities from the monitor to the camera. The range on this one is 700 feet with no obstructions. We did bring this baby monitor with us last year to Arizona on a family vacation, and it seemed to work well while Taya was sleeping and we were by the pool. A few times it did go out of range but it was not a huge issue.

Monitor #2 - Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO Baby Monitor 720P 5" HD Display with A.N.R. (Active Noise Reduction): SHOP HERE
The newer baby monitor that we purchased (like I said it’s from the same brand and we bought both on Amazon) is about $30 more expensive. It has a 5 inch HD display screen, which is super crisp & we love how clear it is. Seriously it is so clear and it was so cute watching Taya sleep the first time we used it haha we were like aww we can see her so clearly! The buttons on the newer model are very intuitive and easy to use. Since the screen and face is so large, the buttons are bigger and all on the front/easy to access. It is nice when you go from looking at a large phone screen all day long, then when you look at the baby monitor and the screen is just as large, it just seems to make sense. It does seem like the speaker on this monitor is a little bit crisper and more clear as well. Sometimes when one of us is in Taya’s room changing her diaper and putting her down for bed, the other one will talk through the camera speaker to her. Every time we’ve been in the room it sounds really crisp and clear. Another thing to note is that the camera itself comes with one lens that is interchangeable on the camera. The wide-angle lens is sold separately, but the zoom lens is included. We have only been using this camera for about a week, but we are really liking it. I think for $30 more it is worth it to have a clearer image of your baby, really clear sound, and the large screen is amazing in my opinion!

This is not sponsored or gifted at all, I just thought it was interesting that we ended up buying two of the same brand baby monitors & thought it would be helpful to compare the two for pricing and product! I would highly recommend either of these to any new parent or pregnant friend.
