Guest Bedroom Design & Decor

welcome to our house

I’m super happy with how our guest bedroom is turning out, and we basically finished it just in time for our first houseguest this past weekend! This is our first house we have owned, and our first place we have lived in with a guest bedroom. We were really excited to make the space feel cozy and comfortable, with little touches of warmth to make whoever is staying here feel like they are home.

The sheets we purchased from Brooklinen and I am soo impressed with the quality & look. If you have followed me for any amount of time.. you may know my obsession with linen sheets; we bought them for our bed a couple years ago and I have never looked back HA. I like the way that they look natural & earthy, and you don’t need to steam them or worry about crease lines, they have a very lived in look. The sheets are super soft and I love the subtle details, like buttons on the duvet cover and the flap in the pillows. We bought the color “white” and they are like the perfect off-white not too stark and bright.

The mattress is the same version of the one we have in our bedroom. We have had it for over two years & still really love it. It’s very affordable, delivers quick on Amazon, and comes in a variety of sizes. We decided to buy a queen bed in the guest bedroom because the room itself is not huge, and I wanted to make sure there was still space for people to move around the bed. I got an Instagram ad for a bed frame brand called Thuma, and I was heavily influenced haha.. we ended up buying the bed frame and it arrived about a week later. I believe they had three wood tones to choose from and we bought the medium toned wood. I really like how the medium wood tones sort of blend in with the color of our floors and overall add to the warmth of the room.

A lot of the accessories in this room are from target! These small bedside tables are perfect for a smaller space, they add a little bit of texture and I like the wood tone. The bed frame is also pretty minimalist and low so having a small nightstand seemed fitting. The artwork above the bed is a couple years old but also from Target, I believe it is from the studio McGee line. Curtains & curtain rod are also from Target and I will link them here.

The sconces on the wall are my personal favorites - we purchased them in a pack of two from Amazon. They delivered really fast and I was very happy with the color of the brass. It definitely does not pull too gold or yellow, but just adds a little bit of warmth to the walls. We actually did not hardwire the sconces in; they are attached to the wall with screws like you would hook up any light, but we just left the wires in the back of the light fixture. We are going to be putting a battery lightbulb in the sconce to mimic the look of lights. I can go more into depth on how we did this in a later blog post!

I think the finishing touch is definitely our Ruggable rug. This is a washable rug brand that I have recently really gotten into, on their Labor Day sale I think we bought a room for a rug for every room in the house. I like the idea that they are washable, easy to vacuum, low pile, and just overall add a lot of texture and depth to the room.

I think that is pretty much it! I am loving how warm & inviting the room is. We hope friends & family who stay with us feel right at home in this room. xx
