Fall Staples + How To Style With A Bump

styling A baby bump

Each Fall we see several reoccurring fashion trends that take hold for that season. They can be spotted in everything from tv and commercials, retail stores displays, and of course in our daily lives as we all find our own ways to put our style spin on what is “in” each season.

I love Fall fashion mostly because of the colors & textures - it is consistently my favorite season to shop and dress for! Being 8 months pregnant this Fall has been a lot different that any other Fall for me style-wise haha. It has been a lot of fun (and sometimes so hard haha!) to find ways to style the bump for this new season. I basically stick with anything stretchy or that can be pulled over the bump, lots of layers, and of course cute boots! I have been trying to purchase items that are not maternity but still work with my bump, because I want to be able to style them this Winter and into Spring as well once baby girl is here. There are definetly days when I feel like my style is sort of in a rut or that I wear the same type of items a lot with this ‘new body’, but I think that finding what works for you is actually super important to defining your personal style! I like wearing a lot of midi skirts that are stretchy, because in the Fall/Winter they will be easy to layer with a sweater while going into spring I can pair with a graphic tee. They are also a great way to feel put together & ‘dressed up’ while being as comfortable as you are in sweats ;) Most of my jackets/coats I am buying right now I am also just buying my pre-pregnantcy size in because I want them to fit after I give birth as well. As long as I have a few that can fit over t he bump & still zip up, everything else I just like to buy so it can work as a layering piece now, and still after pregnancy.

And this is the craziest thing - I have heard multiple women say that when they got pregnant their foot size changed dramatically!! Isn’t that wild!? I have not noticed that mine have changed at all'; except for the occasional puffy ankle after wearing boots too long, they have not changed size. But keep that in mind when purchasing shoes during pregnancy if your feet have swollen or grown at all! Keeping budget in mind when you are thinking of buying new shoes that may just fit for a few months.

STYLE HACK: THE BRA TUCK

One of the BEST tips I have for both pregnant & non-pregnant women is the BRA tuck! This is the most crucial tip to know for styling sweaters - and it is SO easy. Basically instead of tucking your t-shirt or sweater into your waist band (hello pregnancy aka no waist anymore haha) you will tuck the bottom part of the sweater into your bra! Not only does it hold everything in place so much better than messing with your waistband all day long, but it makes practically any skirt and sweater/shirt combo something you CAN wear in pregnancy.

This sweater would typically hit right at my upper hips or waist, and before pregnancy I maybe would have just worn with jeans or a skirt that sat my waist too. But since the skirt has to come over the bump now, the sweater has more fabric to deal with! If I tucked into the top of the skirt I think it would be a bit chunky & not as sleek of a look. By tucking under your bra, you create a smoother look & also don’t have to deal with anything coming untucked or readjusting!!

staples that work through the seasons

When thinking of what you may want to add to your wardrobe, try purchasing clothes that can be versatile and worn in different ways or throughout different seasons. This really help keep your closet a bit more practical and hopefully you will find yourself buying more items that you actually wear! Although personally.. I do love a statement piece & like to have fun with clothes haha don’t get me wrong I think clothes can be/are so fun! But I also think that when purchasing clothes for a new season you should have in mind several ways you can wear the item to get as much use of it as possible. There is nothing more annoying than buying an item you may LOVE.. but have no idea what you are going to pair it with or how to style it. I can think of a few items in my closet that don’t get much wear because I bought them without thinking HOW, WHERE, or WHEN I would wear them. So just keep those things in mind when buying clothes for a new season! If you can’t even think of where you may wear an item, or how you would style it, it might be best to move on to something else.

Fall Staples

Skirt (M) / Sweater (M) / Boots (TTS) / Beanie

Here are a few Fall staples this year that I think are not only trendy, but are also versatile for different seasons and occasions. I find myself going to nordstrom.com to browse popular trends and get style ideas often. I love that you can filter items by size or price, and really find the best options for YOU. If you ever need outfit inspiration for an item you are purchasing, they also often have a style board below the item that shows how they would pair the item & make it into an outfit.

Style tip: try pairing one fun new item with a full outfit you already own for a fresh new look.

Some of you may know that I worked at Nordstrom for several years after college; I think that I found a lot of my personal style & fashion inspiration from working there. So it means a lot to me to work with them now - big thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post! xx
