Blonde Hair Cut & Color Details
cut & color
WHAT DO YOU ASK FOR? I get a lot of questions about my hair color, the cut that I ask for, and how I style it, so I thought I would go into a little bit of detail as for what I ask for at the salon & what my hairstylist does to achieve the color that we get. When I go into the salon I always have the same hairstylist (@elle.chromatique) so she really knows the color that we both want to achieve and the look that I’m going for - I think this helps with consistency. That being said what I ask for is a bright blonde. To me this means something that is not yellow but also something that does not lack color or dimension. It is really important to me that I get a bright blonde & that it does not come out dull or muted.
HOW DO I GET YOUR COLOR? I think it always helps to bring in a photo or two of a color that you are wanting to achieve - but keep in mind even photos that you find on Pinterest or Instagram often will have a little bit of a filter, some sort of editing, or shadows lifted which can always change the color that hair will look in a photo. I also think in order to achieve a specific color it actually really depends on what your natural hair color is. Although my grow out is pretty dark lol and I don’t feel like I’m super blonde anymore, I did grow up with very bleach blonde looking hair & didn’t even dye my hair until I was in my early 20’s. My natural color is a dirty blonde and so it pulls color very easily. The first time I ever died my hair was for our wedding because I just wanted to brighten it up a little bit and get some dimension annddd that was where my love for dying my hair blonde got started lol you can blame it on that!! I feel like once I started coloring my hair I really couldn’t go back because I had to keep upkeep on my roots & truly really just love the bright blonde and dimension that color in my hair gives my hair.
WHAT IS YOUR COLOR FORMULA? My hairstylist has an extremely heavy full foil with very little dimension in between. These are her words for how she explains exactly how she does my hair haha I literally have no idea anything about hair so I am just relaying exactly what she’s told me. The gloss formula she uses is: Redken shades EQ 1/2 10 VG +1/4 10 VV +1/4 10 T.

HAIR DETAILS: It is pretty common that with age your hair color and texture changes, especially after having a baby my hair is one of the biggest changes my body has had. Although I have a lot of hair and it is pretty thick, the hair itself is sort of thin and so I always want to protect it from breakage or going to bleach blonde where it will damage any of my hair. A lot of this has to do with upkeep in the products I use, and I think using good products is extremely Important and achieving healthy shiny thick hair. I do get a lot of questions asking what I’ve done for postpartum regrowth and although I would like to say I had a magic solution I actually have not taken anything specific for my hair. My hair has always growing pretty fast which is awesome because I can chop it short & have it grow back in about a year or so but also it’s hard for upkeep because I feel like I always have a grow out haha. Thankfully a lot of the hair that I lost after having Taya has started to grow back, even though it currently looks like little spikes at the top of my forehead I am just rolling with it (and thankful that it is growing back in general)!!
CUT & STYLE: I always get a trim for the ends because I want them to be smooth and clean with no dead ends. I currently have subtle longer curtain bangs which are really easy to curl back with my hair but not as easy to style straight. I do love the dimension they give to the front of my face I feel like my hair can sometimes look sort of heavy & flat so I think that it is a really good move style-wise for myself personally.
HAIR WASHING: Another thing that is not super common but I always do is showering and washing my hair multiple times a week. I find that clean hair styles so much better personally, and overall I just love the look and feel of clean hair compared to dirty hair. I think the longest I’ve ever gone or ever will go is two days between washing because my hair tends to get dingy & takes on more brassiness. I like to use a purple shampoo mixed into my normal shampoo a couple times a week - I would say maybe 2 to 3 times a week or every other time I shower and wash my hair.
DAILY HAIR PRODUCTS: I have used multiple purple shampoos over the years I am currently liking the Fanola brand I just buy it on Amazon and it is a super deep purple so I have been mixing it with my shampoo & I don’t let it sit on my hair for more than a minute before washing it out. I’ve been using the DAE products that Amber Fillerup created for the past year and I honestly really like them. I have never gotten paid to talk about them or have been sponsored by her brand, I just genuinely think their products are incredible. I also really love the hair oil for after a shower when my hair is wet before drying it. I typically just towel dry a little & make sure they ends are not dripping, add the oil, and air dry for an hour or so before blowdrying. If you were going to be using a purple shampoo it is imperative that you’re using some sort of hair oil or product that is adding moisture back in your hair because blonde shampoo is really going to be drying to your hair especially if you use it often! Sometimes conditioner tends to make my hair feel really greasy, so I will use conditioner probably every other time I wash or if I feel like my hair needs it I will use it.
HAIR TOOLS & STYLING: The other funny thing that I do that I know most people don’t do.. is that I dry my hair with a blow dryer every time I wash my hair. Anyone else with me? I know this sounds crazy & like it would be so damaging to my hair but honestly my hair is so much softer smoother and more manageable when I blow dry it?! I purchased the Dyson about four months ago & I think it’s been a game changer for a blow drying my hair that much because it’s really great at controlling heat temperatures and using air instead of overheating and frying hair. I really love the brush attachment which is actually how I dry my hair the most often. I like the brush attachment because you can get a little bit more volume at your roots and really get into the back of your hair and down at the base of your neck to get all of the hair very dry. It’s actually pretty quick as well. As far as styling goes most days I will just use my T3 or even my cheap Conair curling iron from Amazon. I think they both are 1 1/4 inch and seem to work well for both looser beachy waves and kind of the tighter more ringlet style of curls.
