How To Host A Favorite Things Party

favorite things party

What is it? Some of my closest friends from college & myself have been doing a favorite things party for several years now; I think it actually started when we were in college and we had this idea to do a “favorite things” party around Thanksgiving. The tradition stuck & we continue to try to do this every year if we are all able to meet up around Thanksgiving! The best part about a favorite things party is that you can pick the budget or theme and make it work for everyone. It can be as simple or as over-the-top as you wanted to be haha. This type of party would also be fun fun for a birthday party or just any friends gathering - there’s no reason you have to do it around Thanksgiving and it would be a fun and unique way to find a new way to celebrate your friendships.

What are the “rules”? For a favorite things party each person attending the party will bring one of their favorite things for each person who is coming to the party. Make sure you bring the same gift for each person and that you set a price point before hand. Example: if there are eight people aside from yourself at the party, you will bring 8 of the same gifts. There is no need to bring yourself a gift, but you definitely can if you want to! The idea is that when you leave the party, you will be leaving with one of each person’s “favorite thing”.

budget & theme ideas

The reason I said that you can set the budget and theme for a favorite things party is simply because there are so many options that go into deciding what your “favorite thing” is. For example.. if you want to keep it very affordable and simple you can just say anything under $10, which is what my friends and I usually do. You could also pick a theme and ask everyone to bring their favorite beauty item, favorite book, favorite kitchen utensil, favorite candle, etc. Or just keep it generic and it’s kind of fun to see what people bring at that price point!

We’ve also talked about doing a more over the top version of this same idea and having a budget of 50 or $100 and bringing onThe reason I said that you can set thee gift. The idea behind bringing one more expensive gift would be that instead of everybody leaving with a gift from every person who is attending the party, you would also be leaving with one gift but it Would be a higher ticket item.
