DIY Balloon Arch

I’ve had quite a few questions about these balloon arches that I have purchased from Etsy so I thought it would be helpful to talk more in depth about them here! I have now purchased three balloon arches from this brand on Etsy & I will definitely be purchasing from them again in the future. This seem to be one of the more popular balloon arch brands on Etsy, and it seems like for good reason. The balloon arches themselves are high-quality, they come in incredible color options, they are fairly easy to put together, and you can also choose to pay for expedited shipping on the site which I think is really helpful if you need them fast. The first thing I noticed when the balloon arch came in the mail the first time I purchased it, was that the hues & colors were so gorgeous. A lot of the balloons come with a balloon inside of them - this is intentional to create a specific shade. At first I was confused thinking that the balloons were accidentally layered inside each other but layering two colors on top of each other actually create really unique shades. I think there are a lot of really beautiful color options & you honestly can’t go wrong with how you put it together. I always figured you needed to be a professional haha in order to figure them out BUT they’re pretty simple and look really good!

Which pack do I purchase?

You can buy the bundles in various different pack sizes. I have only purchased the luxury 10-12ft balloon package which I think comes with a really great selection of balloons + a large quantity of them as well. You should be able to make about a 10 foot long balloon arch with this pack. I always make sure I get the luxury option because it also comes with a pump (you can reuse for the next time you make an arch) and it comes with the glue dots that help adhere balloons into the balloon arch at the end to fill in gaps. It also comes with two adhesive hooks to hang the garland and a curling ribbon keg you use to string the balloons together. I think it’s fairly easy to put together - especially after you’ve done it a few times - but there’s also an instruction card that comes in the kit with a link to an instruction video which can be helpful if you are unsure how to make the arch!

How do I put it together?

First off, I would set aside about an hour and a half or two hours of time if you can. You can pump balloons as you go or pump them all in advance and then string them together. I think pumping most ahead of time is helpful so you can see what colors & sizes you have before building. It does help if you have a second pair of hands either pumping or tying the balloons onto the ribbon to help save time! I put together the balloon arch by starting with the curling ribbon & tying two or three balloons together in a little blob. It depends on if you want the colors to be in a certain order or not; I’ve always done it just kind of random sizing and colors which I think is the easiest way to do it. So next step would be taking a balloon that’s blown up and tie it onto the ribbon as close as you can to the previous balloon tied onto the ribbon. Continue to tie ribbons around the base of the balloons & you should start to see the arch effect happening as you put more balloons onto the ribbon. If you are lacking thickness you can start to twist balloons around each other to shorten the gap of ribbon between each of the balloons by doing so. Once again, you’re just tying the balloons in whatever order you want them to be on the ribbon and making sure they’re secure. Once you have the length of balloons that you were looking for, you can start to add smaller balloons in to fill gaps with the glue dots. The glue dots are amazing because you can take a smaller balloon that is blown up and add a few glue dots to the base of it and sort of just tuck it in to fill in the gaps. You could add garland or pampas leaves sticking out of the balloons as well!

Like I said I have made these arches several times & I feel like each time I make them it gets easier and you sort of understand a little bit better how to make the arch! So it does just take a little bit of time and planning out the colors if you have a specific color order in mind that you’re working for. They have lots of fun colors and packages which I will link below!
