Flooring, Paint Color & Details In Our Home

all of the details

Wall Paint:
First off the color on all of the walls that our whole house is Snowbound by Sherwin-Williams. This is a pretty true white in my opinion; it does tend to pull maybe a tiny bit red, but it is not yellow at all and I think looks so beautiful in every light. When picking a wall color you definitely want to pick it based off of your specific house! Even what’s outside of your house; buildings or trees, and the natural lighting in each room will always make the paint look a little bit different. I settled on this color after looking at it online at a few different houses and just really thinking it was the best for the look we were going for. I love it in our space.

Trim & Baseboards:
All of the trim and baseboards in our house are also snowbound by Sherwin-Williams. They have a satin finish, while our walls are a semi gloss finish. I don’t love the look of shiny walls so I think a semi gloss is a really nice in between. Note that if you go too matte for paint on walls it’s really hard to wipe off & clean! Around all of our baseboards we added a shoe trim which adds a little bit more character and covers any gaps that might be from the flooring not lining up perfectly with the baseboards. When we first got the keys to this house there was a mix of tile, linoleum, and carpet, as well as hardwood.. so all of the heights of the floors were a little bit different. It was a little bit tricky to navigate, but adding the trim in the shoe trim around all of the floors helped with that.

Flooring:
Our floors are Coretec LVP in the color Sleek Oak. We fell in love with the specific flooring because of the wide and long planks - and the color is gorgeous. If you were looking for a mid-range color for your floors that is not too dark but is also not washed out, this is the perfect middle ground. We came from living in a townhouse that had really light floors, and I always felt like it was a little bit too much of a farmhouse or modern look for my taste. The longer Matt and I talked about what our style is, I really think that we are somewhere between a traditional and transitional style, with a little bit of touch of modern as well. We definitely like a simple but cozy feel. These floors are perfect because the planks are 70 inches long, they have great variation of texture and tone in each piece, and the overall look is very warm. The planks themselves have almost a matte texture to them which I also am obsessed with because they don’t reflect light, and don’t get really shiny when the light hits them. For the staircases we also swapped from carpet to wood, & I really love how the squared off step on each of the stairs looks. It is so timeless. We did the same Coretec LVP throughout the whole house, in every bathroom and closet as well. I love the unified and cohesive look throughout the house. I personally love hardwood throughout the whole house and then just adding rugs to warm up the room.

Countertops:
The countertops in both the kitchen & all of the bathrooms throughout the house are Viatera quartz in the color Soprano. These countertops turned out amazing in the space because they are a mix of white and cream, they add just a touch of warmth that I think would be lacking in a house that is painted mostly white. All of the countertops in the house are 3cm thick. For the vanities that were pre-existing, we had the quartz measured to fit the vanities perfectly. We did the exact same thing in the kitchen with the island and the countertop space.

Kitchen Cabinets & Vanity Paint:
The Kitchen cabinets and all of the vanities in the house are painted the same black. The color we decided on was Onyx by Benjamin Moore. It is the perfect black if you are looking for something that has basically no undertone. I really did not want the black to pull blue or look grey at all, that was a really big thing for me, and I am so happy with how this color turned out!

Hardware:
The original handle pulls were silver, and very modern in the space. We had swapped through a few different handles before deciding on these subtle brass (I believe the actual color is called Champagne Bronze) handle pulls. The black seemed too modern, especially after deciding on painting the cabinets black. I will link all of them here - we did end up using the black handles in our closet and they are high quality!

Lighting:
All of the lights throughout the house were swapped from whatever was here when we got the keys, to be 3000K. My dad is an electrician haha so I feel like lighting has always been a really big thing for me; wanting a space to feel bright and not yellow. 3000K lights are not actually on the whitest of white on the scale, but they give a really natural bright light, and having the same light throughout the whole house makes a huge difference I think. We swapped out all of the lightbulbs in the recessed cans, and swapped out all of the outdated boob lights (lack of a better word lmao) and put in just a really simple flat flushmount light that was also 3000K to replace them.

Fireplace:
For the fireplace we did actually did a huge transformation & I love how it turned out!! I’ll do a full blog post in depth on the inspo and finished look for the fireplace, but it is a Montego gas fireplace and in the wall behind the fireplace is a pipe for the cords for the frame TV - this is so it looks like it’s hanging on the wall and no cords show. The fireplace itself is also snowbound by Sherwin-Williams but instead of having any texture to it it is a completely flat smooth texture.
