Taya's Strawberry Toddler Room

strawberry toddler room

When we moved into our new house, I was thinking about the theme I wanted in Taya’s room and how I wanted to decorate, and I was so excited about this strawberry room! I love the combination of girly & fresh, and I feel like it came together so well. It’s definitely not overwhelmingly themed, but I love the subtle touches of strawberry. These strawberry decals really made the room come together, and I’m so glad that I found them. I’ve had several people ask me if I hand painted the strawberries on the walls, which is so hilarious because they do actually look really hand painted and real, but I definitely just used a pre made decal haha. Taya loooves to stand up and peel them off in the area around her crib so you’ll notice that it’s pretty clear around her crib - there’s nothing I can do to stop her from picking them off the wall, but it’s kind of cute how they are just sporadic around the crib and the wall lol. Okay sharing more of the details in the room below! xx

Paint Color: Behr Pink Elephant

Picking a paint color was a little bit challenging, but not too difficult because I kind of knew the route I wanted to go. I definitely wanted the one wall we were painting to be pink - but I was looking for more of a lighter shade with peachy undertones. I didn’t want hot pink, red or beige.. so I think we really landed on the perfect color. We bought this paint from Home Depot, and the color is Pink Elephant by Behr. We did two coats on one wall on her room. The white on our walls is Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. We had our whole house painted before we moved in, so it helped to start with a fresh white surface before painting the color on top. We didn’t have to use a primer at all, and the paint dried super well, and even after two coats. We just put Taya in the guest bedroom for a couple days while we painted & the paint dried; its always a good idea to crack windows as well to circulate air. We decided to just start with one wall because I didn’t want to overwhelm her room with too much color. I actually do really like the look of just one accent wall, especially with the strawberries on the wall. It sort of gives it more of like a defined focal point. I still may paint one other wall in there, I’m just not entirely sure if I want to do the wall with the window or the wall with her closet on it. I think it looks great with the white Snowbound by Sherman Williams, it looks amazing with the floors we have in here which are Sleek Oak LVP by Cortex. We’re just overall really happy with the color!

Strawberry Details:
The first item I purchased was this strawberry pillow, it was from Urban Outfitters about a year ago and was actually in her room at our old house before moving here. I just thought it was so cute and girly & fun. The cream & white checkered pillow is also from Urban Outfitters. This one is still in stock, and I will link it here. We still have her glider chair from her nursery, which is actually great, because we love to sit in it and read books with her. She can also put her toys in it & play with them, and I feel like it’s been a really good purchase since we first bought it before she was born. This corner is really cozy with the pillows and blankets. The two blankets on the back of her chair or from two of her great grandmas, they hand made them! My great grandma Sankey (my dad’s mom) made this blanket before she passed away in 20I9, and made it for whichever of her grandchildren had a girl next. I got pregnant in February of 2020 and it was gifted to Matt & I at our gender reveal as surprise from my parents. Such a special moment and gift!

Crib & Mattress:
Tay still sleeps in her crib that we bought before she was born, and we still think this is the best option for her in the phase she’s in right now. I know people swap their children from cribs to beds at different ages, but we are honestly loving the crib stage still. It seems to work well for Taya and us, and keeps her contained when she’s still learning to soothe herself to sleep sometimes, and keeps bedtime more of a routine at this age. We have the Newton baby crib mattress which we love & highly recommend; it’s breathable and fully washable. We have washed it so many times in the past year, this toddler stage is a little bit wild haha.

Artwork & Decor:
A lot of the decorations in her room are from Etsy, I freaking love Etsy! If you just type anything in their search bar, I swear something will pop up haha they have the biggest selection of home made and unique items. I wanted a little Strawberry Shortcake piece of artwork, and I found this cross stitched art on Etsy, it’s so perfect. I will also link all of the framed artwork that’s in her room. Most frames I found at Target. I especially love this print Isaiah 40:8 print - also an Etsy find, it is so special.

Boucle Toy Bench w/ Storage:
This boucle bench has been awesome because it has storage in the inside, which is really great for putting away toys & keeping her room looking clean. We don’t have a designated play room in our house; she mostly plays in the living room where we are, or up in her bedroom. So I really enjoy having toys in here that she can play with and knowing she can open the toy bench & grab things from it is really easy.

Dresser:
The dresser is actually from IKEA, but I found pretty much the exact same dresser at the same price point, which I will also link here. This dresser is really nice because it has a lot of drawers, which make it easy to keep things organized. I love these drawer organizers! You can also swap out the drawer handles if you wanted something different or a fun color, but they are just a simple black drawer pull, which I think is great.

Vase & Table Lamp:
The strawberry vase is $25 and it’s from Amazon - I think it shipped overnight, it was really fast. Right now I just have some dried olive branches in it, but you could obviously put fresh flowers or, keep it empty. It’s kind of a smaller size which I think is great for sitting on top of the dresser so it’s not overwhelming it. It’s actually very cute & really good quality. I also love this lamp. It’s also sits on top of her dresser. It has such a good glow and color to it, we rarely turn on the overhead lights because we love the glow from the lamp so much! It’s also nice because it’s not too bright that when we put her to bed at night, or down for a nap, we can leave the light on until we turn it off and leave the room. I also like that the cord is clear and you don’t see it at all when it hangs down the dresser, but it has a little easy clicker on the side. It’s kind of nice because Tay I can actually click it on and off, so if she’s in her room, she can turn it on or off, or we can ask her to turn it on if we need her to.
