Recent Baby Buys

Aside from the typical newborn, baby essentials, like diapers, wipes, & onesies, there were a few things that I wanted to buy for a baby number two that we either needed or that I wanted just to try this time around. Some of these items are pretty self-explanatory, but I wanted to chat about some of the newer items that I decided to buy this time around!

Hatch Restore 2 Sound Machine & Portable Sound Machine
This Hatch sound machine is a newer model, but the same brand of the one we have for Tay. I really wanted to buy it because it has the brown noise option which I’ve heard is better for tiny ears than white noise. It also is obviously beautiful & very aesthetically pleasing, and I love that you can use it as a alarm, and that it has multiple sounds to choose from. We will be keeping this in our room until the baby moves into the nursery. I’ve used this sound machine for the last few days in our room & I really enjoy it and think it is easy to use. I love the brown noise - it is super soft and to me it doesn’t sound as harsh as white noise sometimes can. I also just purchased the new portable sound machine from Hatch (I bought it on Amazon but you can also buy from their site) because once again I love that they have 10 sound options! I feel like with Taya the white noise sometimes sounded so aggressive, especially in the portable sound machine, so I love the idea of having different sounds to choose from on the go when in the car or pushing the stroller.

Baby Brezza Formula Dispenser
I actually thought about getting this formula dispenser with Taya because she had formula for 3/4 of the first year of her life (until we swapped to milk at age 1) and I think that it would’ve made it a little bit easier, especially with nighttime feedings. It’s obviously a non-essential item.. but I think for me personally (who struggled with breast-feeding and producing enough milk) this will be something that gives me a lot of peace of mind, and will be super helpful for feedings. It also has really great reviews and I like that you can adjust the temperature and how much formula powder you want to add into the bottle. It basically is a little Nespresso machine for baby formula haha!

Lalo Bath Tub
I decided on this bathtub for baby because I love the idea of it being a standalone small bathtub that can also sit inside of the bathtub if you wanted to. I wonder if I could set this smaller tub inside the tub while Taya takes a bath and they could sort of bathe together?1 It looks like it has a good shape too that they can grow into, but you could also give the baby a bath on the counter or in the sink and they would still be contained.

Camera & Monitor
This is the same camera and monitor that we have had for Taya since she was born and we have really liked it, especially for the price point. PROS: When we first put a camera on the registry when I was pregnant with Tay, I wanted to make sure it was something that did not connect to Wi-Fi. I don’t love the idea of anyone else being able to access the camera or monitor, and after reading reviews we settled on this one. It’s easy to travel with as well, we just pulled off today as well and bring the monitor with us and you can plug it in anywhere without having to connect it and set it up to the Wi-Fi. The camera & monitor we got for Taya lasted us about two years and we just recently had to buy a new one for Tay because the cord was broken and the battery on the monitor didn’t last more than a few minutes, which wasn’t the end of the world, but it was pretty annoying to always have to be plugged in. So we just ended up buying another one for Taya and one for baby as well. CONS: I think the one downfall with this camera and monitor system for me is that, you can’t have a split screen and see both kids at one time, you can go between two cameras on the same monitor, but you can’t watch them both at the same time I believe. So for that reason, we will have two monitors so we can watch Taya + baby at the same time. Totally up to each person to what they decide to, but I think this is going to give us the most peace of mind. One other con for this camera and monitor set is that sometimes the distance of the monitor from the camera can affect the quality of the image & the connection. We’ve only had a couple issues with it, and never in our own house, mostly when we are on vacation or staying at someone else’s house there have sometimes been issues, but for the most part it’s got a really good connection and a good price point compared to other cameras out there.

Diaper Caddy
I found these diaper caddy’s on Amazon and I bought one for postpartum items & one for newborn essentials. I love that they are super lightweight and easy to wipe down, the handle is nice to be able to move it anywhere. Also just a simple design & aesthetically pleasing. I was thinking it will be nice to have the the newborn, diapers, wipes, swaddles, etc. packed in one place and to be able move them around easily. I might keep it in our bedroom for the first month or two, or maybe downstairs just so we can move it wherever we need it. This would also be great in a car to hold baby and toddler essentials, because it has so many pockets so you can keep things really organized!
