Christmas + Holiday Traditions
TIS’ THE SEASON
Tis’ the season for holiday traditions and making Christmas memories with friends & family! A few weeks ago I asked you guys what your holiday traditions were and thought it would be fun to share a few + share more about what our traditions are! I really love this time of year and feel like it FLIES by, so making memories and soaking up time with family & friends is super important to both me and Matt. Aside from the usual family Christmas traditions on Christmas Eve & Christmas morning (craziness, but we love it), we have created some of our own traditions together. Both coming from big families with lots of traditions growing up, we thought it was important to make some for us that we could carry on with our families too someday! I am sure if kids come along these will change & grow, but for now we look forward to these fun traditions each Christmas season.
Feel free to comment & share what YOUR favorite traditions are!

PIKE PLACE MARKET (SEATTLE) IN DECEMBER IS MAGICAL!
OUR HOLDAY TRADITIONS
Black Friday in Seattle: I always kick off the holiday season by spending Black Friday weekend in Seattle with three of my best friends from high school. We love to get a hotel room downtown & shop, walk around, check out Pike Place all decorated for Christmas, and eat good food. For me, it’s a good way step away from work for a busy weekend and just relax & get the season started with gratefulness and gratitude for good friends.
Collect Christmas Ornaments: The wedding venue where Matt and I got married turns into a Christmas tree farm each December! We discovered that actually the year we got married, so it’s been fun going every year since. We usually cut down a tree from their farm (this year we went fake so we could have it up longer) and also pick out an ornament for our tree. They have this whole selection of Christmas decor, ornaments, signs etc, all sold from different local retailers! We love just walking around and looking at all of the fun Christmas decor!
Gingerbread Houses: I always loved making and decorating gingerbread houses with my brothers growing up! I feel like it is something I will never grow out of haha. This year I am actually really looking forward to it because our niece and nephew are now at the age where they can join in and make them too!
*NEW tradition* Collecting Christmas Homes: Growing up my grandma Sankey would always have the most epic Christmas town display in her living room, and I always thought it was so cool and festive (she used to even have a train track and ice skating pond in it too). Matt’s mom actually did the same thing! Matt has always vocalized how much he loves the way they look and this year we decided that it would be a fun tradition to start together; collecting the Christmas pieces to make a town! This year we bought one piece + snow + fake trees to go along with the barn that my grandma gave us last year. It will be fun to add to it and collect over the years!
Sleeping Under The Christmas Tree: Matt and I started this tradition in 2016 when we got married and have looked forward to doing it on Christmas Eve every year since! After all the family holiday plans are done on Christmas Eve we go back to our home and get cozy, then bring out blankets onto our big couch, plug in the tree and sleep under it! It’s the best. Super fun to wake up with the lights on and just seems so magical haha!
Family/Friend Christmas: This tradition started when I was in high school, with my best friend Amy’s family and mine. Both our parents actually have houses on the same lake in Eastern Washington, so it sort of started because we were always over there during Christmastime and thought, “why not get together”? So we started this awesome weekend where both our families get together in the mountains. We like to play in the snow, sled, make a big fire, walk trails, eat chili over the fireplace, and hangout together. We have done this I want to say like 7 years in a row now, and it’s always something we ALL look forward to!
